Born in Fort Worth, TX in 1948, Bob Harris was adopted by William W.W.
and Jennie June Harris of Baytown, TX and was dressed in a Roy Rogers
suit when he was brought home for the first time. As a youngster,
Rev. Harris was raised in Baytown, Houston, Dallas, Bryan and
Kerrville, TX as well as New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA. Throughout
his childhood, Rev. Harris spent many summers at his grandfather's
ranch in Victoria, TX learning to ride, rope and do other "cowboy
stuff". During junior high and high school, his interest in all
sports flourished, but rodeo events were his passion.
After high school, Rev. Harris attended the Elkins Institute of
Technology and graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Applied arts in
Theater Arts with a minor in Radio, Television Broadcasting and
Advertising. Upon graduation, he worked in Las Vegas as a stage hand on
the Vegas Strip and a stunt actor for various TV shows and western films
that came to Vegas to film.
It
was in 1970 that Rev. Harris first heard the Gospel preached at a
Billy Graham crusade in Baton Rouge, but it wasn't until 1975 that he
surrendered his heart to Jesus and began a new life's journey. One
year before becoming a Christian, he met his soon-to-be wife, Kristi
and was married to her that same year in 1975. Kristi was a dancer
and stage performer at the MGM Grand Hotel where he worked as a stage
hand and stunt rigger.
Rev.
Harris entered Bible College training in 1978 and graduated from Las
Vegas Bible College, a division of the A/G Home Bible Education
System of Trinity Temple Assembly of God Church. In 1981, the whole
family moved to Spokane, WA where Rev. Harris worked on a ministry
internship. Nine months later, another move took the Harrises to
Anaheim, CA - where Rev. Harris continued his ministry education at
Southern California College, MelodyLand School of Theology and Logos
Christian College while working full time to support his family. In
1988, Rev. Harris was ordained one year before graduating from logos
Christian College with a BA in Religious Arts in Biblical Studies.
Rev.
Harris has been on the staffs of the Crystal Cathedral, the Hour of
Power TV Show, the Christian Broadcasting Network's 700 Club, the
Anaheim Vineyard and pastor of the Lake Elsinore Community Church.
During a leave of absence from 1992-1997, Rev. Harris became
interested in cowboy ministry while interviewing rodeo announcer and
cowboy minister, Coy Huffman and was asked to conduct Cowboy Church
at several local rodeos. In October, 1997, God gave Rev. Harris the
vision for a Rodeo Cowboy Ministry and Cowboy Church and Good Company
Rodeo Ministries & Cowboy Church was formed that same year as a
not-for-profit 501c3 corporation under the umbrella of the
Association of International Gospel Assemblies in DeSoto. MO.
Rev.
Harris is associated with Cowboy Church International, the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Cowboy Chapter, Christian Cowboy
& Friends and the Lambs fellowship Mission. All funding comes
from private donations and offerings...there is no charge to the
rodeo committees or contestants for any of the services we provide.
